Rick Wasserman

Director & Lead Coach

IMDb

“I do what I teach.  I do it every day.  And I love what I do.

I have no secrets.  I share everything I know.”

I have been making my living as a professional voice over artist for nearly 20 years  and am best known as the 15-year signature voice of AMC Network and for voicing THOR and HULK for Marvel animation projects.  I can also be heard as numerous bad guys on popular video games series such as GOD OF WAR, STARCRAFT and BATMAN ARKHAM.

Most of what I learned about the voice over, I picked up on the job, which often came at a price:  embarrassment, low confidence, and even the loss of work.  With the help of educators I love and trust, I have organized all that I learned about voice over, built curricula and lesson plans, and now I share what I practice.

When not in the studio, you can find me indulging in my favorite hobbies: magic and cooking.
I live near Malibu with my wife, two boys, and faithful pup, Bowie.

Erika Merriweather

Coordinator

With a life-long love of playing dress up and all things fantasy and sci-fi, it was not actually that surprising when Erika quit her job as a Washington policy analyst and moved to LA to live an artist’s life. She discovered a love of singing and acting and began to study both, while also developing her passion for working with children as a mentor and caregiver, guided by her own mentors, Riz and Oriah Mirza.

Erika came to know the voiceover world after meeting Rick and attending a Bookable workshop, and she has continued as a happy student ever since, developing her skills as a VO artist specializing in animation. Her favorite part of being the Coordinator for Bookable is getting to see the excitement in a student’s eyes when they access a new part of themselves in a workshop with Rick and really let loose in the booth!

When not managing Bookable’s social media and coordinating with students, Erika can be found (still) playing dress up as original characters for her YouTube channel, madebymerriweather. Find her on Instagram @madebymerriweather.

Bryan Showalter

Demo Engineer

The year was 2000, and there was a rock and roll exodus underway. Moore, Oklahoma, most famous for tornadoes and then later for more tornadoes, was the starting point. Hollywood, CA was the final destination. Bryan Showalter grabbed his bass guitar, packed up the van, and along with his band The Mimsies, moved to Southern California.

Fast forward through a few years of rock and roll madness and then after attending the Los Angeles Recording Workshop he found himself working as the private engineer for trailer/promo voice Ashton Smith. It’s here that Bryan learned the World of VO from the inside out. After his time with Ashton, it was on to a quick 12 year stint as the head engineer of Dave & Dave Recording Studios.

Since early 2018, Bryan has been the chief engineer and one of the partners at LA Digital Recording, where he records, edits, and mixes all things voice over, including the occasional music project. Mild mannered audio magician by day, husband, father, and jack-of-all-trades musician by night.

FAQ

DO I NEED COACHING?

Not so long ago, word got out that you can make “big money” in voice-over simply by talking into a microphone for a only a couple minutes. Soon, it seemed everyone and their uncle wanted to be a voice over artist.

Unfortunately, without training, thousands of novices end up lost, forgotten, and not a penny richer among the sea of voice over performers out there.  In fact, many people actually lose money by purchasing the wrong microphones, unnecessary demo reels, over-complicated recording software, etc.

Like any performing art, voice over is a craft that requires study. We can supply you with the practical and proven tools to help you go from casual enthusiast to working professional, so you can be competitive and book work.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

1-on1 sessions are available in 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes. Workouts are 2 or 3 hours and Workshops can be 3 to 6 hours.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME TO A SESSION?

Yep! Please bring water, some means of taking notes (we recommend a notebook and a pencil instead of an tablet or laptop), any homework you've been assigned, and an open mind.

IF I REQUEST A SESSION, HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO GET BACK TO ME?

We strive to answer your emails and calls within the same business day, but it may take an extra day or two depending on the volume of work we have on a particular day and if we are finished watching cat videos on YouTube.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE FOR ME TO BE READY TO MAKE MY DEMO?

The number of sessions will depend on your prior experience with voice over and how much information you can absorb and apply during each session. That number is different for everyone. It is our desire to make sure you can accomplish your goals with as few sessions as possible so you can get out there and book, book, book!
